That Girl Away

I grew up as an avid fan of the family-friendly and super cheesy show Full House. Some might even tell you that I have all 7 seasons on DVD. I’ll never confirm, not deny that, so don’t ask (fine, I DO).

Fun fact: Jeff Franklin, the show’s creator, purchased the house back in 2016 and painted the front door red again. So cool! I like to imagine the cast has sleepovers there every now and then.

So obviously one of the thing towards the top of my list in 2009, in addition to see AT&T Park and Haight-Asbury, was go see the house from the opening credits of my favorite TV show located at 1709 Broderick Street (which is almost – basically – my last name, coincidence? I think not) in the Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco.

I forgot how I got there but everyone in San Francisco knows where this house is probably because they get asked all the freaking time where to go to see it. (I’d imagine it to be like asking someone in New York where the Seinfeld diner is!) The house was originally build in 1883 and contains 3 bedrooms, but no mention of any attic or basement so the floor plan of the actual house and the house they used as a set obviously do not match.

You can access the area on BART pretty easily, I think, or trolly car (hey, it was in the opening credits to the show!). I think any kid that grew up in the 90’s probably makes a stop here when they visit San Francisco and that’s nothing to be ashamed of.
