That Girl Away

Friends, I’m going to tell you a little secret: I hold a very unpopular opinion which is that I did not like visiting Italy at all. I’m sorry, but not really. In 2008, I spent about a week and a half visiting Venice, Rome, Pisa, and Florence. It was July, so it was scorching hot and I was a tiny bit miserable. There’s only so much wine, pasta, and gelato a girl can have before she passes out. And I’m not religious so if I had to go look at another church, I was going to lose my mind.

Anyway, what was Italy other than unpleasant (for me)? It was beautiful – gorgeous architecture every where. Little cobblestoned streets. It was all very pretty. So, aside from eating gelato and getting drunk on wine playing Kings in a park in Venice, there was also the Piazza San Marco (aka St. Mark’s Place in English), which was, in my humble opinion, the prettiest spot in Venice (at least that I can remember).

It’s the main public space in Venice and if you walk up to the top of the Campanile of St. Mark’s Church, you’ll find the best (perhaps only?) view of the city. When I was looking back at my photos from my visit there, I found that, despite it being 2008, I had actually got some pretty photos.

The view from the top of the Campanile!

A dark photo of yours truly at the top of the Campanile.
