Since I’ve moved and resettled again, I’ve been looking to make up for my lost trip to Reykjavik. Two nights ago I was thinking about the cities that I could easily visit in the US for a weekend and see most (or all) of it and Denver, Colorado came to mind. The company I work for just opened a studio there, so I could visit the studio and see Denver. I’ve never been to Colorado (shocker, I know!) and it’s a small enough city that three days and two nights would be enough to see it.
So that’s where I’ll be spending the last weekend of October. I booked a nice hotel that had a good deal going on right near the 16th Street Mall and I started making lists. What to do, what day to do it, and I realized there’s actually not that much to see.
So what am I planning to do? Here’s what I’m interested in seeing:
- Civic Center
- 16th Street Mall
- Larimer Square
- Coors Field
- Molly Brown House
- Union Station
- Great Divide Brewing Company
- Denver Zoo
Where am I going to eat? Probably at Snooze (I’ve eaten at the one in San Diego before), Illegal Pete’s (Mexican street food!), The Little Owl Cafe, and Ophelia’s Soap Box.
Oh, and probably coffee from every other coffee shop I pass.
And what am I doing the first night I’m there? DENVER GHOST WALKING TOUR. My friend sent me a link to all the supposedly-haunted things in Denver and I found a ghost walking tour, so I’m signing up for that. I also think it’ll be a good way to get a feel for walking around the city. The super popular one is sold out but there’s another one that’s not fully sold yet.
I’ve been told to go to Red Rocks Amphitheater, too, but there’s no good concerts going on there and it costs $20-$30 each way to Uber out there. I’m not really sure what the point of going out there minus an event to see would be.
The best part that is completely free? The Denver Airport! Have you Googled ‘Denver Airport Conspiracy Theory‘? If not, I trust that you’ll do that as soon as you finish reading and spend an hour going down that rabbit hole.
Anyways, I’m looking forward to a chilled out weekend exploring a new, small city. If you have any recommendations for Denver, especially food, let me know!
