When my cousin and I arrived in Seattle for a weekend back in 2011, she’d been told by friends to skip the Space Needle and go to the Sky View Observatory atop Columbia Tower instead. Apparently it was higher and the view was better.
And in 2011, it only cost about $3 to get to the top. Compare that to the TWENTY-NINE DOLLARS ($29!!) they charge to get up to the top of the Space Needle and it was a no brainer.
I mean, you go to the top of the Space Needle for the view. Not because the building is a specific structure. You just want to the view! Columbia Tower is taller anyways. I just checked their website and prices seem to have gone up quite a bit – $20 for an adult when you buy online. But still. That’s almost $10 less than the Space Needle!
Anyways, we bought our tickets the day of and went to the top to see what Seattle looked like from above. Spoiler alert: It was gray and rainy, but we expected that of course.
I’m such a doll. If you look closely you can see the Space Needle about an inch from my middle finger. It’s so tiny!
So, if you’re ever in Seattle, make sure to skip the Space Needle and hit up Columbia Tower instead for a better view and a better deal.
