When I going to New Orleans in 2015, I knew I'd have a lot of time by myself since my friend was going to be there on business and having to work most of the time during the day. But being the super capable solo traveler that I am, this was a feature, not a bug (as the kids say these days). I Googled yoga studios near our hotel (we were staying at the Sheraton in the financial district) and in my searches I came across Reyn Studios at 725 Magazine Street, about 6 blocks south of where we were ... A New Orleans Yoga Studio Review (New Orleans, LA)
What I Ate in New Orleans, Louisiana
I was looking through the photos on my phone recently and went all the back to 2015 to my photos from New Orleans. I’ve been writing for the past week about some of my experiences there because why not?! But I couldn’t find any photos of any of the delicious food I ate while I was there. UNTIL. Until I checked my phone that is and all the deliciousness was in front of my eyes and the textures and tastes came back. Now I’m very aware that most of what I ate in Nola back then is stuff I ... New Orleans Pro Tip: Why You Should Forget Bourbon Street, And Go to Frenchmen Street
Here’s a pro-tip if you’re going to New Orleans: forget Bourbon Street and head to Frenchmen Street instead. Bourbon Street, while somewhat acceptable during the day and should definitely be visited once while you’re there so you can say you’ve seen it, is definitely a shit show at night and not in the good way either. It is the Jersey Shore on the Mississippi River and completely touristy. You could play a drinking game where you take a shot every time you see someone vomiting but then ... VIEW POST
The Haunted City of New Orleans
I'm a huge fan of walking tours. I love to go on them wherever I am. Poland, Budapest, New Orleans. It doesn't matter. Sign me up and I'm down to learn about whatever city I'm in. It's by far my favorite way to see a city that I'm brand new to. The hop on/hop off bus tours are for the weak. New Orleans is often described as one of the most haunted cities in America. New Orleans residents say the dead refuse to rest here because there is no solid ground to hold them (New Orleans being a swamp ... VIEW POST
Another New Orleans Cemetery: Lafayette Cemetery No. 1
On the same day that I visited Saint Louis Cemetery No. 1, I also visited Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, also in the Garden District, and also creepily nicknamed the "City of the Dead." Roughly the size of one city block in New Orleans, Lafayette holds about 10,000 people and was first established in 1833. The cemetery was named after the old town of Lafayette, which was incorporated into New Orleans back in the day and it's the oldest operating cemetery in New Orleans today. It's ... VIEW POST
Why You Should Visit Saint Louis Cemetery, No. 1 in New Orleans
Back in 2015 when I accompanied my friend on her work trip to New Orleans, I spent the days walking around and exploring by myself and I saw two cemeteries of note while on my travels. The first of which I'm writing about today: Saint Louis Cemetery No. 1. I hopped on a streetcar and took my first trip to the Garden District. Nestled in between all of these exquisite southern estates is a decaying, and creepy, graveyard. First on my list to see was the grave of voodoo priestess Marie ... VIEW POST
