Since I'm going to Reykjavik in a few days, I'm starting to mentally prepare for the sticker shock when I get there because one of the number 1 things you'll read on the internet is how expensive it is. But I have lived in New York City for almost 15 years and New York City is SUPER expensive so I'm hoping that will temper my shock but I'm bracing myself. But I thought I'd write about what it was like when I visited the most expensive place that I've ever been to: Norway. I looked it up ... VIEW POST
The Most Expensive Place I’ve Traveled To (So Far)
The More You Know: There’s a Burger Joint in Oslo!
One of my friends and colleagues went to a few different cities in Scandinavia this week and I SO enjoyed following along via his Instagram. I'd given him a bunch of recommendations for Oslo and Stockholm before left and one of my recommendations was go eat at a restaurant in Aker Brygge. Aker Brygge (pronounced Ah-ker Breh-ger) is a strip of newly developed shopping, apartments, and restaurants on the water, just next to the ship ports and City Hall. It's super pretty at night and I ate ... VIEW POST
Five Things You Can’t Miss in Oslo
I really had no idea what I was going to see when I booked a trip to Scandinavia in 2015 and included Oslo on my itinerary. Just in case you were also planning on taking a trip to Oslo soon, I wanted to write about the top five things you can't miss in Oslo (but also, go pick up a Lonely Planet guide for additional inspiration - that's not sponsored, I just really like their guides!). I knew I wanted to visit Henrik Ibsen's house because although I wasn't working in theatre anymore, I was still ... VIEW POST
What I Ate in Oslo, Norway
I ate some fantastic food - albeit mostly pastries - when I traveled to Oslo in 2015. I wasn't as into photographing my food obsessively back then but I do have a few photos. On my first night in Oslo after I dropped my stuff at the Anker Hostel, I walked down the main road towards the city's center and one of the first restaurants I happened upon was called 3 Brodre. I stopped dead in tracks because "Brodre" is almost my last name save for the last two inverted letters. (I found out later that ... VIEW POST
#FBF: The Phallic Frogner Park (Oslo, Norway)
I'm starting a new Friday theme called #FBF where I flashback to less recent travels. I'm not usually good at structured blogging, but let's keep our fingers crossed, shall we? Let’s take a break from the story deluge from my recent travels to Budapest and Vienna to talk about a little sculpture park in Oslo that I visited in 2015. The Frogner Park more specifically houses the Vigeland Sculpture Park is in the northwest corner of Oslo. After I’d booked my plane ticket to Scandinavia, I ... VIEW POST
Why Theatre Lovers Should Visit Ibsenmuseet (Oslo, Norway)
I really loved Oslo - a lot. It was probably my favorite Scandinavian city that I visited. It was so pretty and the food was great and there was so much to see. But I love theatre so I especially love Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House, so I had to make a visit to Henrik Ibsen's home in Oslo, aka Ibsenmuseet, which is located Henrik Ibsens Gate 26. There's an exhibit on the main floor about Ibsen's work influencing popular culture through the decades since he became a prominent person in the ... VIEW POST
