Gdansk is a considerably smaller city than both Krakow and Warsaw so I was a little worried about finding things to do to fill 3 days, but luckily, the history of the beautiful, rebuilt city of Gdansk kept me busy. Gdansk is one of the oldest cities in Poland and in the 1300's it was ruled by the Teutonic Knights, whose mark you can still see in much of the architecture of the city (including some phallic imagery on top of the town hall building - they were not modest). If you go to this idyllic ... VIEW POST
What To See in Gdansk, Poland
What I Ate In Poland (Krakow, Warsaw, & Gdansk)
my meal on my very first night in Krakow. The hostel had given me a map and told me where to go for pierogis. I guess I qualify as a millennial because I take photos of my food, both when I'm traveling and at home in New York City. It's fun. Sometimes food is pretty. I apologize for nothing. But when I travel I find that I take even more pictures of food because everything is different and unique. It also makes me super conscious that I live off of carbs for most meals because I'm doing so ... VIEW POST
Why You Should Visit Oskar Schindler’s Factory
After Auschwitz, my next must-do on my agenda was Oskar Schindler's Factory in the Kazimierz district in Krakow and I wanted to write about why it's worth the schlep south and across the river to visit Schindler's Factory. Historically, Kazimierz was an independent Jewish district outside the city lines of Krakow. It was only after the king noticed that the Jews were really good at paying taxes that he made Kazimierz part of the city of Krakow (despite the fact that it was over the river). I ... VIEW POST
The Story of Jan Karski: The Man Who Tried to Stop the Holocaust
On the walking tour of Muranov (aka the Jewish Ghetto in Warsaw), we learned about Jan Karski. His statue (above) sits outside the Museum of the History of the Polish Jews in Warsaw. I'd never heard of him before and I was slightly horrified at that because he's known in history as "the man who tried to stop the Holocaust." I mean, I'm Jewish and I even spent an entire semester studying the Holocaust during my senior year of high school. No one mentioned Karski. He was raised in Lodz, Poland ... VIEW POST
Visiting Wawel Royal Castle & Wawel Hill
When you're visiting the beautiful country of Poland, there are reasons why visiting Wawel Royal Castle is worth your time and I'll you why in this post! I finally made it down to Wawel Royal Castle, located on Wawel Hill, on my last morning in Krakow before I hopped on a train to head to Warsaw. I'd walked past it a few times - on my way to and from Schindler's Factory, I think. I knew there was a spot where supposedly one of the 8 chakras was found. Being a yogi, I thought that was pretty ... VIEW POST
Why You Should Make Pierogis While Traveling in Poland
I've never been the type to take part in activities offered at hostels. I always think they sound fun, but there was a lot to see in Warsaw and I only had three days. But then I considered the fact that I'm usually just hanging out at night after dinner, not doing much of anything, and I decided, OK, fine, maybe this is a good idea. I am in Poland, after all. I was joined by a couple of other travelers - a mother and daughter from tiny town in England, a guy from Australia (or maybe it was ... VIEW POST
