I’m less than 48 hours out until I leave for 10 days in Israel! I’m a little nervous because a) I haven’t traveled with people in forever and b) what if I forget something?!
Luckily, I’m an expert at making packing lists so tomorrow night I’m going to do one final double check to make sure I have everything. Oh, and I’m going to Israel, not the Amazon, so I’m pretty sure I can buy anything I need there (even if there isn’t a Flying Tiger).
But I am bringing a couple of things that might possibly be considered odd. Let me explain what they are and why I’m bringing them:
- Cat Treats: I’m not sure I’ll be able to get them on the plane, but I’m bringing them because there are tons of feral cats in Israel who are part of the community and people’s daily lives there. My friend who’s spent a ton of time in Israel said these cats are actually feral and don’t want to be pet, but I always buy treats when I see feral cats while traveling so I thought I’d bring some along this time. (Please don’t take them, El Al!)
- Multiple Journals: Some might call this overkill. I’m bringing my travel journal and my intentions journal. The latter one I just started and I don’t want to give up on it 4 nights in, so I’m bringing it. Will I actually remember to write my intentions down every night? Who knows. But hopefully? The other journal is my travel journal – the one that’s come with me everywhere since I went to Scandinavia in 2015.
- Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans: I’m nervous for this trip in part because I don’t think I’m going to be able to get enough sleep. I hope that since this Birthright group is older, they’ll not be as keen on going out, but who am I kidding, they probably will be. So I’m bringing chocolate covered espresso beans to keep me awake during the day.
- A Tea Tin: There used to be matcha in it but now it’s empty and I thought I’d bring it along to store food in – leftovers, breakfasts, a croissant, etc. Is this weird? I just think it might be easier than having it rolling around in my bag.
- A Blue Velvet Shrug: I’ve had this for almost two decades and it almost never gets worn. But since I’m bringing a lot of tank tops and it gets colder at night, and it takes up almost no room, I thought: why not?
So, that’s it. Those are the weirdest things that I’m bringing with me. I’ll have a post up on Monday about my packing list, in case you were wondering. Our trip leader has suggested we all check our bags, to which I laughed for a good five minutes. Thank you but no, thank you. I’ll keep my stuff with me.
See you on the other side and make sure to follow my Instagram for photos in real time next week!
